The "royal free city" of Rust - the city of storks and fine wines
The cultural jewel of Rust lies in the heart of the Lake Neusiedl holiday region, which is famous for its musical highlights and the Lake Neusiedl - Seewinkel National Park. Not far from Rust are the Mörbisch Lake Festival (operettas), St. Margarethen Opera Festival, the Haydn Festival Eisenstadt as well as numerous castles, palaces and museums.
Rust itself is a cultural centre of the province of Burgenland with its unique architecture. This uniqueness is also reflected in the events held. It's not the mega events that have found their way into Rust, but high-quality, small-scale cultural events, which invite guests to enjoy the tranquillity and pleasure of the moment.
Culture and nature come together in Rust more than almost anywhere else in Austria. What a fantastic view, when numerous pairs of storks breed on the chimneys of the Baroque and Renaissance buildings year for year and gracefully glide over the historic old town of Rust.
