Esterházy family collection houses a collection of arms and armoury, the silver room, the ancestral portrait gallery and the treasury. “Burg Forchtenstein” castle has acted as a “vault” for the precious family values for the Esterházy family since time immemorial. The visitors experience an exhibition programme whose fantastic quality is unsurpassed in the whole of Europe:

  • The Secret Treasury, which, shrouded in mystery, is the only Art and Treasure Chamber to remain in its “original location” since it came into existence and it thus unique within Europe.
  • The ”Wondrous World of Esterhazy” (Wundersame Ahnen)  exhibition is the largest Baroque family and portrait gallery in Central Europe – an exciting and enthralling journey through the history of the large princely Esterhazy family.
  • Europe’s only remaining collection of Silver Furniture dating back to the Baroque period is also legendary - comparable collections belonging to other princely and royal families were - almost without exception - all melted down throughout the course of history in order to improve the war coffers.

This wide-ranging programme is rounded off by a whole host of events and special kiddies’ activities.
