Die Ruster Rieden

Weingartenkarte der Freistadt Rust

The vineyard area of Rust comprises 450 hectares. Bounded by the Ruster Hügelland (Rust Mountain Range) which shields the single sites to the north and west, our vineyards more or less face south and east. The basin-like shape of the vineyards – which open to the lake – helps to utilize the beneficial effects of the micro-climate induced by the lake. In the morning the large water surface mirrors the light upon the grapes – they are always a step ahead of neighbouring areas.  The annual average temperature is 1˚C above regions only a few kilometres away. These favourable factors guarantee the optimal physiological grape ripeness every year.

The small vineyards shape the landscape in a fascinating and varied way. Meadows and hatches border the paths, cherry and almond trees inhabit the vineyards. But our most precious capital is the vines. Today, detailed observations over generations have led to a comprehensive knowledge as to which sites are best for specific grape varieties.
