The idea of finding some common ground for small romantic and especially historic towns in Austria came about in 1994. The towns of Rust, Baden, Wels, Kufstein, Steyr, Spittal/Drau, Feldkirch were the "founding fathers" of the organisation, which now comprises 18 towns. Rust is the smallest representative of these towns.

The Catalogue of Small Historic Towns, which is available in German, English and Italian, is already a collector's item due to its design and annually changing front cover. It contains infos on the town and hotel recommendations as well as event tips and interesting theme trips.

The Small Historic Towns' range of offers also includes the "Austria Classic Tour", motorbike or open-top car tours through Austria. Well-researched daily route stages with many fantastic sight seeing tips and a respective destination in one of the Small Historic Towns take you through the most stunning and breathtaking regions in Austria.

The annual highlight is the "Festival of the Small Historic Towns", 13 to 15 May in Gmunden.

During this highlihgt event, also the Small historic towns of Austria (a touristy cooperation through all Austria) will present theirselves in Gmunden. Besides the sports highlight, the RC 44 Austria Cup there will be a rich supporting programme over severel days, live music and many more.
